One of the potters in Nueva Vida checks on the firing of a mucahua. The traditional firing method, shown here, is almost like a small kiln. The unfired mucahua is placed upside down in an already-fired bowl with the bottom broken out. The unfired bowl is then covered with ashes to insulate it during the firing.
